Using the site
By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. We may change the terms; the "Last updated" date at the top of the page records the current version.
Instruction, not professional advice
Everything published here is general craft instruction for people working with oil and acrylic paint. It is not materials-safety, health, medical or conservation advice, and it is not a substitute for the label on the product you are using or for a qualified conservator examining an actual object. Drying times, ratios and product names are recorded from our own studio practice at 20 °C and 50 % relative humidity and will differ in your conditions.
You are responsible for how you handle solvents, pigments and tools. Ventilate your workspace, follow the manufacturer's safety data sheet, and keep lead-bearing and cadmium pigments away from children and food contact surfaces.
Intellectual property
The text, layer diagrams, parametric cross-sections, code and page design on this site belong to Underlayer Studio. You may quote up to about three hundred words of an entry with a working link back to the original page. You may not republish an entry in full, translate it wholesale, or use the layer diagrams in a course, book or paid product without written permission.
Classroom and other non-commercial teaching use is permitted with attribution and a link. Automated scraping of the whole site for model training, or reuse of its content to build a competing publication, is not permitted.
No warranty and limits
The site is provided as is. We aim for accuracy, we correct errors when we find them, and we do not warrant that any entry is free of error or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for damage to artwork, materials, property or person arising from following instructions published here.
Links to other sites are provided for reference. We do not control them and we are not responsible for their content.
