What we collect directly

Nothing that identifies you. There is no login, no comment system, no newsletter and no contact form — the only way to reach us is by email, and anything you send us by email is kept only as long as it takes to answer you. Server access logs record IP address, user agent, requested path and status code as part of ordinary web hosting; we use them to find broken links and to keep the site online.

Advertising and Google AdSense

This site is supported by advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Where required by law, a consent message is shown before non-essential cookies are set, and you can withdraw consent at any time through the same message.

Google's advertising products may also use the DoubleClick DART cookie and, where a user is signed in to a Google Account, may associate activity with that account. Analytics

We use aggregate traffic statistics from our own web server logs to see which entries are read and which need rewriting. If a third-party analytics product is added later for a specific site section, this policy will name it and describe what it sets before it is enabled. We do not build cross-site profiles of readers and we do not sell data to anyone.

Your rights under GDPR

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to be informed about processing, to access any personal data we hold about you, to have it rectified or erased, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Because we hold no reader accounts, in practice the only personal data we could hold is an email you chose to send us.

The lawful basis for any processing we do is legitimate interest in operating and improving a publication, and consent for any non-essential cookies, which you may withdraw at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

Your rights under CCPA / CPRA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, disclosed or sold, the right to delete it, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

We do not sell personal information. Certain advertising cookies may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA; you can opt out through the consent message shown on the site or through the browser-level opt-out signals described above. Children, retention and changes

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Server logs are rotated and deleted on our host's normal schedule, normally within thirty days. If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes with it and the previous version remains available on request.
